Our History
Three neighbouring regions, one set of customs and dialect.
Kwangsi
"Kwai" is the old name for Guangxi
Ko Chow
Gaozhou, southern Guangdong
Long Kong
Luoding, Yunfu and Yunan
The three regions share borders, customs and a common dialect, and their people have looked out for one another for generations. Centuries ago they began coming south to work, mostly on rubber estates and in tin mines, often returning home every few years.
When the Japanese invasion of 1941 cut off sea and land travel, and China's politics changed, families settled in Malaysia for good and became loyal citizens. They never forgot their roots, so this association was formed to keep those ties alive.
Tampin, a small town on the Negeri Sembilan–Melaka border, was home to many families from the three regions, most working as rubber tappers and farmers. In 1969, during the Pak Tai (北帝) birthday celebration at the home of Mr Yeong Sap Luk, members proposed forming an association and set up an organising committee.
